Dr Fuery was professor of piano at UC Berkeley for a number of years as well as teaching master classes at other universities. Recently he was engaged to conduct master classes and the colloquium on "19th century piano improvisation." Along with Malcolm Bilson, Suzanne Macahilig, and Seymour Lipkin, he made presentations to aspiring young pianists about the lost art of musical improvisation. All the great composers of yesteryear were wonderful improvisers. JS Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, and Frederic Chopin were all marvelous improvisers in their own right. "Dr. Chuck" teachers a very systematic and methodical approach to learning how to improvise and create music on the spot at the piano. Wouldn't it be wonderful to play Chopin prelude or a Beethoven sonata movement and be able to create music based on those ideas as to Mark. Learning to improvise at the piano creates a whole new world of musical understanding and sensibility. It provides for a the performer a deeper understanding of the compositional process and hence, creates a greater understanding for the music that the performer is playing. "Dr. Chuck" offers a lesson into the strategies for performing extemporaneously at the keyboard at no charge. Often, these lessons are conducted in group settings because of time constraints. The performer and auditor is not obligated to perform in these sessions and they can be audited without performance.
